Straits Times Reflection
Term 3 Week 8
2E/NA
Q1a) What are the 4 rules for religious harmony?
- The four rules are all groups have to exercise tolerance and restraint, keep religion separate from politics, government must retain secular & maintain the common space that all Singaporeans share.
Q1b) In your opinion, how can we maintain a common space in schools?
- Schools can encourage their students to actually mix around with other religions other than their religions. Schools can bring the matter where in the olden days, different religions need to get together to support Singapore & make Singapore proud of her name.
Q2) Do you respect other religions? Why or why not? What do you think of children who stay away from their parent's funerals because they believe the traditional rites are against their new religion?
- Yes, I do respect other religions because when we respect other religion, this shows that my religion is very respectful & treat other religions equally & with justice.By respecting other religions, our own religion will also get respected by others. This is really important because when nobody respects anybody, racial or religion riots will happen in Singapore & everyone, for sure, doesn't want this to happen in a peaceful country.
For some of the people who converted to another religion & that is to stay away from their parents' funeral, might be a little harsh. Why would they stay away from their parents' funeral when they brought these people up? When you converted into a new religion, they didn't stop you, so why must you be so selfish? Even if you were not at the funeral, why not visit their grave? What's the harm? We must think of the consequences when the religion said that we must stay away from our parents' funeral.
