Straits Times Reflection
Term 3 Week 8
2E/NA

Q1a) What are the 4 rules for religious harmony?

- The four rules are all groups have to exercise tolerance and restraint, keep religion separate from politics, government must retain secular & maintain the common space that all Singaporeans share.

Q1b) In your opinion, how can we maintain a common space in schools?

- Schools can encourage their students to actually mix around with other religions other than their religions. Schools can bring the matter where in the olden days, different religions need to get together to support Singapore & make Singapore proud of her name.

Q2) Do you respect other religions? Why or why not? What do you think of children who stay away from their parent's funerals because they believe the traditional rites are against their new religion?

- Yes, I do respect other religions because when we respect other religion, this shows that my religion is very respectful & treat other religions equally & with justice.By respecting other religions, our own religion will also get respected by others. This is really important because when nobody respects anybody, racial or religion riots will happen in Singapore & everyone, for sure, doesn't want this to happen in a peaceful country.

For some of the people who converted to another religion & that is to stay away from their parents' funeral, might be a little harsh. Why would they stay away from their parents' funeral when they brought these people up? When you converted into a new religion, they didn't stop you, so why must you be so selfish? Even if you were not at the funeral, why not visit their grave? What's the harm? We must think of the consequences when the religion said that we must stay away from our parents' funeral.

- The con artists pose as welfare organisations on a project to groom up & neaten the senior citizens' homes.

Q1b) What are the Lion Befrienders planning to do to ensure the old folks do not get conned again?

- They are planning to notify those in charge about these scamsters.

Q2) Do you like doing social work? Why or why not?

- I love to do social work! To me, it's fun & teaches us something at the end of it. Like we have to be grateful of what we have that others don't. Social working helps us fill up our free time & is a great way to communicate with other people. Social working makes me build up my stamina & self-confidence towards other people that I'm going to meet in the future.

- The first trend would be teeenager below 14 years old are starting to traffic the drugs & these teenagers had been arrested for doing so. The second trend would be Singaporeans are starting to commit the crime overseas.

Q1b) Why are Singaporeans increasingly being used as "drug mules" ?

- Singaporeans are increasingly being used as "drug mules" because Singaporeans do not check as Singapore's reputation for being strict onto drugs.

Q2) What will you do if you find out that one of your friends is selling drugs? How will you react if someone tries to sell you drugs?

- I will immediately tell him/her to stop selling drugs because it's dangerous. Even though he/she did not take drugs, one day they will be influence. It's dangerous because it may affect the person's life, future, & career. If someone tries to sell me drugs, I will reject & tell them why I rejected politely. Only by this way, drug addicts will learn & eventually regret what they had done throughout their whole lives.

Q1(a) Why is cheerleading an expensive sport?

- Cheerleading is an expensive sport because lots of things are needed to buy for the competitions arranged. Pom-poms, for example, cost them around $50 to $70. They also need to buy hair products for styling their hair for about $50. As for the costumes, they are need to hire a tailor to design different costumes for each competition for $100 to $400. They also need to attend gymnatic classes which cost $50 per session. They need their medical insurance from an insurance company & these cost the team $30 to about $100 per person. The nutritional supplements, also known as vitamins, cost about $50 to $130 per bottle. As for the shoes, that are imported from United States and Taiwan, costs around $50 to $150 pair. They also need to buy their own training mats for $50 each. The thighs that are imported from Thailand cost from $2 to $25 for each cheerleader.

(b) What makes cheerleading such a tough sport?

- Cheerleading looks like a tough sport because this sport requires a lot of team work. The cheerleaders won't be able to rest if a competition is coming up. This sport also need to practice hours during several days in a week. All the stunts that has been assigned must be performed perfectly.

Q2) What is your opinion of cheerleaders? If given a chance, would you join cheerleading? Why/ why not?

- For me, I think cheerleaders are excellent when working together as a team. They can actually co-operate with each other & understand each others strength & weaknesses. That's always inportant when working as a team & with someone you usually work with.if i am given a chance, I would definitely join cheerleading because I think cheerleading looks like a fun sport. I also love to overcome challenges in life. I really love dance routines being held out as I can remember dance steps easily.
